How to Draw Vines

The vine is fascinating because it can take many forms depending on its environment and the objects around it. They are closely associated with jungles and will be a standard feature in any media environment featuring a tropical jungle. However, the complex shapes they can take can make it difficult for anyone to learn how to draw vines, leading to frustration.

Luckily, you’ve come to the proper tutorial if you want to know how it’s done, so be sure to read until the end! If you are looking for some cute drawings, drawing for kids, cartoons drawing, animals drawing and many more, then you are at the right place.

Drawing Vines

Step 1:

We’ll start very simply to get you started in this guide on how to draw vines. For the first steps of the guide, it would be beneficial if you used a pencil to trace the lines while we plan the drawing. We’ll mention later when you should start using your stylus!

With that in mind, use this pencil to draw a curved horizontal line like the one in the reference image. Then you are ready for step 2!

Step 2:

We will continue to add to your vine design planning in this next step. To do this, use your pencil to draw an identical curved horizontal line under the one you drew earlier. That’s it, so you can move on to the next part when it’s drawn.

Step 3:

This third step of our guide on drawing vines will change things a bit. We’ll stick to the pencil for now, and all you have to do is draw a wavy line above the previous two. It will be part of the vine that will wrap around the other parts later.

Step 4:

For this fourth part of your vine drawing, you’ll use your pencil one last time before you start using a pen for the final lines. Using your pencil, you must draw another curved line parallel to the previous one. Please refer to the reference image as you draw; it will help you place the lines. Then you’re ready to start erasing and adding a few final lines!

Step 5:

In this fifth step of our guide to drawing vines, we’ll start erasing the pencil lines to get you ready for a few final pencil lines. To do this, direct to the contact photo and use a little eraser to erase a few lines inside the vines.

The goal is to make it look like two winding sections meandering each other, so the parts you erase should be pretty specific. Once erased, take your pen and go through all the remaining lines until they look exactly like our reference image.

Step 6:

Now that you’ve drawn the vines, we can start adding some minor details to the image. To do this, in this step, draw some small prickly leaves on the vine section on the left side. We will continue to add these little leaves as we go!

Step 7:

This phase of our direction on pulling vines’ intention is a direct continuance of the last stage. It means that you will draw leaves over the vines, but this time they will be more on the right side of the drawing. You can add a few more if you want a fuller look to the picture!

Step 8:

There are only a few minor details to add before coloring your artwork as the final step of drawing your vines. For this part, draw some small curved lines inside the outlines of the vines to make them a bit more textured and twisted. Then you’re prepared for the striking pieces in the following step!

Step 9:

You’re ready for the final details in this step of our guide on how to draw vines. In our example, we added some small curvy lines from the vines and some vein details on the leaves. Once they’re added, you might as well draw some extra details on your own!

Some ideas would be to add more vines or even have creatures on or hanging from the vines. What else can you believe of to complete this idea? Currently, end it off with some coloring! This step of drawing your vines finishes it with a bit of color! In our reference image, we used shades of green for the sections of the vines, but you should use whatever colors you like!
